Vailly-sur-Sauldre is a place whose history is visible in its buildings, rural cultural heritage, and a vehicle collection.

History

At the Église Saint-Martin, the western and side walls of the nave date from the 12th century. The fortified castle of Vailly-sur-Sauldre was built in the late 14th century, remodeled in the early 16th century, and is now a ruined stately residence. The complex features an octagonal curtain wall and cylindrical corner towers. The northwest tower has a sloping base and an axial loophole.

Culture

The Grange Pyramidale de Vailly-sur-Sauldre is an agricultural heritage building from the 15th century; some original beams date from 1450. The building can be entered and, with its tools and reconstructions, provides a vivid impression of agricultural work in the 19th century. The Musée Rétromécanique displays 43 cars, including some rare examples. It can be visited by telephone appointment.

Every Friday morning, markets and fairs are held in Vailly-sur-Sauldre on the completely renovated village square. At the site of the Vailly-sur-Sauldre mill, there is a waterfall and a millrace.
