Boulleret: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Boulleret is situated in a distinctive waterscape: the Loire borders the town; a flood protection embankment runs along the left bank of the “petite Loire”. Boulleret is also part of the Natura 2000 area “Vallées de la Loire et de l’Allier entre Cher et Nièvre”.

Nature

The Canal latéral de la Loire is lined with automatic or manual locks and can be navigated with a rented or private boat.

Culture

The Château du Pezeau can be seen from the road and dates back to the 16th century. The Gothic Sainte Marie Madeleine Church dates from the 15th century. It has a bell tower porch dating from the 18th century and also houses statues from the 16th century. From June to September, the church can be visited free of charge and without a guided tour.

Three old washhouses have been saved and fully restored in Boulleret, including the Fontaine St Martin washhouse. The Château de Buranlure is a square complex of buildings with moats that have been refilled with water and medieval masonry; it was rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries. It is open to visitors in summer and during the European Heritage Days.

Things to do

The moderately difficult mountain bike route no. 48, “Lavoirs, écluses et moulins”, starts at Boulleret’s church square and is 15.4 kilometres long. France Services in Boulleret rents out five bicycles for trips along the Loire or elsewhere.
