Chezal-Benoît: The Moulin de Nouan is a Berrichon tower windmill built between 1800 and 1826. It is open from 1 July to 31 August or accessible by appointment; booking by telephone in advance is recommended.

Culture and History

The church of Chezal-Benoît is now a parish church. Its distinctive façade features an elegant portal surmounted by three wide openings. The entrance, divided by a central mullion, is decorated with capitals and rich floral motifs.

The Abbey of Chezal-Benoît was established as part of the monastic revival at the end of the 11th century and the beginning of the 12th century. It was founded by an Italian monk who came from Vallombrosa in 1093.

The historic site of Abbaye de La Prée is located in the vicinity of Chezal-Benoît. In the wider regional area around Chezal-Benoît are the Musée de l'Hospice Saint-Roch, the historic site of Abbaye Bois-d'Habert, and the Église Saint-Cyr church.

Nature and Walking Trails

The municipal Étang du Moulinet is a place for relaxation, fishing, and picnics. The Choeurs Bommiers forest is suitable for walks and features various tree species as well as diverse wildlife.

Routes

“La ronde des bois” is an easy, 12-kilometre route with a duration of approximately three hours. It is a hiking and mountain-biking route in Chezal-Benoît and ends at the Étang des Biches, which is suitable for picnics and listening to the birds.

The “La Chapelle de Chœurs et Chezal-Benoît” route leads into the centre of Chezal-Benoît.
