Jars: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Church of Saint-Aignan in Jars is essentially a 16th-century building and is one of the few religious Renaissance buildings in the Cher department. Locally, it is known as the “little cathedral of the Pays Fort”.

Culture and History

The history of Jars includes the former weaver’s house, along with its associated mill. It was listed as a historic monument by decree of 19 September 1966. In the stone cellar of the former weaver’s house, looms once stood.

The pyramidal barn in Jars has preserved most of its original features: a large roof, a wooden supporting structure resting on posts, a central threshing floor, a sheepfold, feeding troughs, and storage rooms in the upper section. It belongs to a rural architectural tradition of the Pays Fort in the north of the Cher department that is unique in France and can still be visited.

Nature and Trails

Hiking and horse-riding trails cross the entire municipality of Jars.

The Bois de la Passe circular hiking trail is signposted as an easy 4- or 8-kilometre hike lasting around two hours and starts at the Plan d'eau de la Balance. The trail offers views of the Sauldre Valley and the centre of Jars.

Activities

At the Plan d'eau de la Balance in Jars, there is a mini-golf course and outdoor games for children. There is also a fitness trail and tennis courts.
