Rochefort-en-Terre is a well-preserved village whose houses from the 15th and 16th centuries recall its former importance. The village has been awarded the titles “Plus Beau Village de France” and “Petite Cité de Caractère de Bretagne”.

Culture and History

The historic village setting includes the Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Tronchaye. It was classified as a Monument historique by decree on 22 January 1931. The Lavoir de l'Etang, a communal washhouse dating from the 16th century, is also part of the village’s history. It is located near the fortified gate of l'Etang and is fed by the Le Candré stream.

Alfred Partridge Klots purchased the Château de Rochefort-en-Terre on 7 June 1907. At the Naia Museum, the Arts de l'Imaginaire are the main focus; works by 50 French and international artists are presented there alongside older cultural heritage works from Rochefort-en-Terre.
