Gâvres: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Gâvres has a long, south-facing sandy beach. The Grand Site de France Dunes Sauvages de Gâvres à Quiberon stretches for 35 kilometres of ocean dunes from Gâvres to Quiberon.

Coast and nature

The Petite Mer de Gâvres is an inland sea covering 560 hectares. 35 species have been recorded in this inland sea, including 11 protected species.

Traces of history

Roman remains in Kersahu attest to ancient settlement in the Gâvres area. A notable historic site is the Goërem megalithic monument: it is a dolmen covered by a cairn and a tumulus. The dolmen dates from around 2450 BC and features a unique right-angled arrangement. In Gâvres, it was classified as a historic monument in 1965.

The Church of Saint Gildas is also part of the area's history. Its foundation stone was laid on 21 July 1887. Fort de Porh Puns, called Porh Punz in Breton and also known as Port-Puce, was built in 1695 as the first fort in Gâvres to protect Port-Louis. Fort de Porh Puns is open to the public every weekend.

Circular trail and access

The Tour de la presqu'île de Gâvres circular trail starts at Port de Ban-Gâvres. It is an easy hike of around five kilometres and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Gâvres is easily accessible by Batobus from Lorient and Port-Louis.
