Locmaria: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Locmaria combines impressive coastal landscapes with a remarkable history and a variety of trails. The Eglise Notre-Dame de Locmaria was consecrated in 1070 by the monks of Sainte-Croix de Quimperlé Abbey and is the oldest religious building on Belle-Île-en-Mer.

Coast

Pointe du Skeul is the highest point on Belle-Île and offers a remarkable panoramic view stretching to the horizon. Phare de Kerdonis is one of the three lighthouses on Belle-Île. At Pointe de Kerdonis, the coastline marks the transition between the wild coast facing the ocean and the gentler coast facing the mainland. A hiking route also takes in this landscape: the “Autour de Locmaria” route begins in Locmaria and leads via Pointe du Skeul to Pointe de Kerdonis at the island’s far southeastern tip.

By the water, a variety of beach landscapes can be found. Plage des Grands Sables is well protected from westerly winds and has calm water as well as a sandy tidal area. Plage de Port Blanc has fine sand and faces east-northeast; Plage de la Biche is sheltered in a small cove of schist rocks.

Trails and Water

The Boucle Locmaria – Port Andro begins in Locmaria and offers elevated views of coves and sandy beaches. It is open to hikers, walkers, and trail runners.

At Plage des Grands Sables, Belle-Ile Horizon offers sailing courses and rents out kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.

Local Character

The Jardin du Théâtre du Bord du Champ offers daily tours by prior reservation. Oysters also farmed in Locmaria can be sampled at Huîtres de Cochennec.
