Pluméliau: Holiday apartments and houses

Pluméliau reveals its distinctive features through chapels, fountains, historic details in its villages and paths through diverse landscapes. Its characteristic aspects often lie in the details – from individual architectural forms to small, traditional local features.

Culture and history

The Chapelle Saint-Nicodème features elements of Flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Its enclosed grounds have been protected as a historic monument since 26 October 1910. The grounds also contain two particularly remarkable fountains, which are considered among the finest in Brittany.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame in La Ferrière was built in the late 15th or early 16th century. The Chapelle Saint-Nicolas-des-Eaux overlooks the Blavet Valley; it was built at the beginning of the 16th century on a Latin-cross floor plan.

Among the smaller historic details in the villages are 26 bread ovens, four of which are incorporated into bakehouses, as well as six priests’ houses, each bearing a chalice. Pluméliau also has 107 decorated fountains; they mainly feature human faces, as well as angel heads, monstrances or a chalice. The Chapelle Saint-Gildas is located in the municipality of Pluméliau-Bieuzy and contains a ringing stone that Saint Gildas once used to call his faithful.

Paths

The Circuit des Étangs circular route starts at the car park by the pond on Rue des Combats de Kervernen in Pluméliau and is approximately 2.5 kilometres long. The Circuit de Saint-Claude circular route starts at the car park by the chapel in the village of Saint-Claude, is 5 kilometres long and takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes; along the way, it leads to the ruins of the Chapelle Saint-Claude.

Another route is the Circuit de Kerdavid; it passes the washhouse, the Chapelle Saint-Thomas and the parish church of Saint-Méliau.

Nature and water

The Landes du Crano is a 130-hectare ZNIEFF area in the Blavet Valley and, at the same time, the largest area designated as a ZNIEFF in the entire Blavet Valley.

La Balade du Père Nicolas is located in a 17-hectare wooded valley amid the natural surroundings of central Morbihan. In Saint-Nicolas-des-Eaux, the watersports centre rents out canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards in summer.

Local life

The Pluméliau-Bieuzy farmers’ market offers fish, crêpes and galettes, goat’s cheese and honey. It takes place from April to early December on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
