Guillac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Guillac showcases its distinctive features along two waterways and through a multifaceted historical heritage. The Oust forms the southern boundary of the municipality for around 9 kilometres. At Guillac’s nautical landing stage on the Nantes–Brest Canal, there is a boat pontoon as well as a rest area with benches and picnic tables. From there, visitors can access walking and cycling routes, including the Vélodyssée.

Nature and Routes

The GR 37 also connects the present with the past in a special way: today, it is a hiking trail, while its route formerly served as a railway connection between Locminé and Ploërmel.

Culture

The Église Saint-Bertin is the focal point of the village. It was built in the first half of the 16th century and originally consisted of a single nave and a northern side chapel with tracery windows in flamboyant Gothic forms. The church houses the 17th-century oil painting “La Donation du Rosaire”.

The sacred heritage also includes the Fontaine Saint-Bertin, which was built for the de Saint-Pern family in 1665. Since 1927, a stone statue of Saint Bertin has stood in a niche of the Fontaine Saint-Bertin.

History

The Abbaye de Saint-Jean-des-Prés was founded in the mid-12th century according to the Rule of Saint Augustine. Its buildings were rebuilt between 1663 and 1682. The site is partly classified as a French historic monument and partly listed as such; it is partly protected.

Another historical trace is the Colonne des Trente: the 13-metre-high granite obelisk has towered over a former battlefield since 1823. It bears a commemorative inscription listing the thirty Breton fighters.

The 6-kilometre Circuit d’interprétation du patrimoine de Guillac leads through the municipality’s heritage and history. It begins at the Église Saint-Bertin in the centre of Guillac.
