Cruguel: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Since 2007, Cruguel has held the “Commune du Patrimoine Rural de Bretagne” designation; the designation was renewed in 2016. The village combines protected monuments, historic buildings and paths through the Breton countryside.

Culture and History

The Fontaine de Saint-Brieuc, with its washhouse and bathing pool, has been listed as a historic monument since 29 March 1935. It was formerly part of Cruguel’s demolished parish church. The present Saint-Brieuc parish church was built between 1874 and 1902 to replace the earlier church.

The Chapelle Saint-Yves dates largely from the second half of the 17th century and was partially rebuilt in 1852. The chapel grounds were placed under protection on 24 September 1934.

Located on private property, the Moulin des Timbrieux windmill is one of the few windmills still preserved in the canton. The restored mill retains part of its transmission mechanism.

The village’s streetscape also includes a manor house built in 1636 at the corner of Rue Saint-Brieuc and Rue des Vieux Métiers, with a round-arched entrance door on the ground floor, a dormer with a triangular pediment, and a wooden cornice with brackets, as well as an old manor house at Place du Souvenir dating from 1645, which forms part of Cruguel’s rural heritage.

Landscape and Trails

The 7 km Circuit des Picouras trail runs through hedgerows, meadows and woodland, following the valley of the La Chesnaie stream. Cyclists can use the 16 km Route No. 11, “La vallée du Sedon”.

A brochure guides visitors through Cruguel on a heritage walk to several notable homes in the village centre. Cruguel’s heritage walk presents local legends and local personalities.

Local Flavours

Foie gras de Cruguel is sold directly at the farm throughout the year by appointment.
