Larmor-Plage: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Larmor-Plage has six kilometres of coastline, including three kilometres of sandy beaches. Plage de Kerguelen is a more than one-kilometre-long white-sand beach opposite Île de Groix and is accessible to people with disabilities. Plage de Toulhars is a 500-metre-long sandy beach. The Casino Esplanade at Plage de Port Maria features a children’s playground and sports facilities, including a small outdoor fitness trail.
Nature and Trails
The Parc océanique de Kerguélen is a protected dune area at Anse de Kerguélen, created around two former coastal marshes. It covers 82 hectares of marine flora and fauna under the supervision of the Conservatoire du littoral and offers opportunities for nature observation and birdwatching.
The Marais de Kerdeff is a former pond that was drained in 1905. It contains salt marshes, rushes and reeds, which provide favourable living conditions for insects, amphibians and birds. The “Au fil de l’eau” hike is a 12-kilometre circular trail that passes 14 fountains.
Culture and History
The Église Notre-Dame in Larmor-Plage was classified as a historic monument by decree of 8 February 1990. It has a covered porch flanked by twelve statues beneath carved canopies.
Fort de Kernével was built in 1761 opposite the citadel of Port-Louis to complement the defence system at the entrance to the roadstead of Lorient. At Pointe des blagueurs, a ceramic plaque commemorates Larmor-Plage’s sardine fishing industry. Villa Margaret is part of an ensemble of three villas known by local residents as Château des Sardines.
Villa Kerlilon is open to the public during the Journées du patrimoine; the tour includes the German submarine command bunker beneath the garden. Dolmen de Kerguelen is dated to approximately 4000 to 2000 BC.
Water Activities
The Kerguelen Sports Océan water sports centre in Larmor-Plage is open all year round and offers opportunities for catamaran sailing, dinghy sailing, windsurfing, windfoiling, wingfoiling, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Diving courses, introductory dives and excursions to dive sites around Île de Groix also depart from there.
École French Foil offers foil courses for beginners and experienced sailors. In July and August, Escal’Ouest offers introductory sea-fishing trips departing from Kernével in Larmor-Plage.
