Béganne: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château de Léhélec is a Breton château in the style of Louis XIII and can be visited in Béganne. It was built in 1660 by Jean Le Mintier from red slate and granite and is listed in the inventory of French historic monuments. During visits, you can see the ground floor and the outbuildings dating from the 16th century, which house a small regional collection of ceramics, tools and rural furnishings, as well as a gallery with paintings and watercolours.

Culture and history

The Church of Saint-Hermeland in Béganne features Romanesque architecture, has medieval origins and was remodelled and extended in 1450, with Gothic influences added. Its attics are home to a colony of greater mouse-eared bats every summer. The Saint-Cado Chapel is a 15th-century ruin.

Béganne is home to France’s first community wind farm. Along the Circuit des Landes de Béganne, information boards provide details about the history of the “Bégawatt” community wind farm since its founding, as well as the history of the area, its fauna and flora.

Things to do

Port-Folleux was established in the 1970s on the site of a former customs post and salt store. At Port-Folleux on the Vilaine in Béganne, you can go kayaking or paddleboarding, walk along the riverbank and have a picnic in the countryside. At the Port de Folleux, boats named “D’une Rive à L’Autre” cross the Vilaine to reach moorings.

The “24 heures de Folleux” festival brings sailors and rural residents together every year in May for a weekend at the port in Béganne. Vélo-Promenade route no. 16 starts in Béganne and is signposted as “Vélo-Promenade n°16”.
