Sougéal: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Sougéal is closely associated with the Marais de Sougéal: the wetland is designated as a regional nature reserve and extends over 175 hectares. Nature, wetland landscapes, and cultural sites are brought together here within a compact thematic setting.
Nature
The Maison du Marais presents the animal and plant life of the Marais, along with its changes over the course of the year. At the same time, it explains the history and functioning of the Marais in an interactive museum space.
The Marais de Sougéal is visited by waterfowl; in spring, migratory and breeding birds can also be observed there. The “Sorties Nature” programme includes one-hour excursions to observe the birds of the Marais and learn about the management of such a wetland.
Things to Do
The walk around the Marais de Sougéal runs along the edge of the marshland and is marked with special trail signage. A footbridge over the Couesnon gives hikers from Aucey-la-Plaine access to the footpath along the edge of the nature reserve.
The Saint-Pierre Chapel in the hamlet of La Selle is a sightseeing destination on the Circuit du Marais de Sougéal. The wooded Vauscension Valley offers a view of Mont-Saint-Michel.
Culture and History
The church of Sougéal was rebuilt in 1836. The historic site of Abbaye Notre-Dame de la Vieuville is located near Sougéal. The beach of Mont-Saint-Michel and the Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel are also nearby.
The wider area around Sougéal is home to the historic site of Abbaye de Montmorel, the island of Île des Rimains, and the Cathédrale Saint-Samson de Dol-de-Bretagne.
