Saint-Pern: Holiday apartments and houses
Saint-Pern combines traces of its history with paths through the countryside and a distinctive local character. Historic buildings, nature trails and a regularly held organic market give the town a variety of facets.
Culture and history
The church of the Prieuré Saint-Pern preserves a north gable of the transept, supposedly dating from the 14th century, as well as a west portal and a south portal from the first half of the 16th century. The Abbey of Saint-Nicolas d’Angers founded a priory in Saint-Pern in 1050. Tour Saint-Joseph includes a residential building from the 17th century that was rebuilt over the remains of an earlier fortress. The chapel of Tour Saint-Joseph was built in 1868 and has a crypt containing the tomb of Jeanne Jugan. Château de Ligouyer was built in 1552 on the site of an earlier manor house.
Paths and countryside
The Circuit des Châteaux is a walking route lasting approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Chemin de la biodiversité N°18 is an easy, 4-kilometre walk lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Information boards provide details about the local fauna and flora. The path runs along hedgerows, through a wooded section with a stream and past cultivated areas.
The 10-kilometre circular route Circuit des châteaux n°174 starts in Saint-Pern, leads through the countryside and alternates between grassy paths and small roads. The circular route leads to the ruins of the park of the 18th-century Château de Caradeuc. The Circuit de la Petite Crête n°173 follows small roads for the first few hectometres and then runs entirely along paths.
The washhouse of Saint-Pern has a recently renovated slate-roofed shelter supported by several wooden pillars. The central basin of the washhouse is fed by a small stream.
Local character
An organic market takes place at Ferme du Pressoir every Saturday morning throughout the year from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. La Bouche qui Rit du Pressoir, formerly Ferme du Pressoir, is an organic butcher’s and charcuterie shop as well as a farm shop in Saint-Pern between Pays de Brocéliande and Bretagne Romantique.
