Nature and trails

In La Gouesnière, Bois Renou offers a 2.5-kilometre star-shaped orienteering course and a 1.5-kilometre environmental trail focusing on animals and trees. Visitors should download the appropriate map before starting these orienteering courses and print it in A4 landscape format. Mountain bike circuit no. 5, “Les Conquérants”, passes through Bois Renou, recommends a detour on foot to the Grotte de la Vierge, which contains a statue of the Virgin Mary, and offers landscapes between the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and the Rance Valley.

Church and history

The parish church of Notre-Dame in La Gouesnière was rebuilt in the 17th century; permission to do so was requested in 1660, and the church was solemnly consecrated on 31 August 1664. The church contains an exceptional altarpiece in the main altar, commissioned in 1666. Its side altars contain two marble statues by Genoese sculptor Francesco Maria Schiaffino. The burial chapel of the Level family was built in 1866.

Château de Bonaban still has towers at each corner, an eleven-bay façade, a seigneurial dovecote and an oratory. Saint-Malo’s 2025 tourism programme listed guided tours of the château’s interiors and grounds by reservation, as well as independent visits to the grounds.

Bonaban is home to an old bann mill, which still exists. The “Mémoires Saint-Patrick” association promotes remembrance of Saint Patrick, who lived in the 5th century at the site of Bannavem Tiburniae; this site became Bonaban and is now part of La Gouesnière.
