Renac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Renac is set in a rural landscape with gently rolling terrain and a mixture of cultivated areas, forests and heathland.

Nature

The Marais de Vilaine and the Canut Valley are among the preserved natural areas in Renac. The Marais de Gannedel extends across La Chapelle-de-Brain, Avessac, Renac and Sainte-Marie.

In the Marais de Gannedel, a signposted discovery trail with information panels about the local flora and fauna leads through the natural area. The route is around 6 kilometres long, takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes, and there is a small car park before the natural area.

Culture

Chapels, fountains, mills and churches are considered part of Renac’s local heritage and can be discovered on walks. A processional banner from 1910 is documented for the Church of Saint-André in Renac.

In Trobert stands the Chapelle frairienne Saint-Fiacre, a chapel dating back to the 17th century. Its choir preserves two reused coupled windows from the 15th century.

The Chapelle de Trobert attracts a pilgrimage every September, probably dedicated to the veneration of Saint Fiacrius.

Routes

Six hiking trails, four mountain-bike circuits and three cycling routes are listed for Renac. The hiking loop to the Chapelle de Gavrain starts in Renac, is 17.5 kilometres long and takes approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes, with a moderate difficulty level. At the beginning, the trail follows wooded paths to the chapel; on the circular route, it also passes through the historic row of houses in the hamlet of the same name. A picnic bench is available at the chapel stop.

The Circuit VTT La Butte aux Ânes No. A4 leads through wooded areas to the Chapelle de Gavrain and includes technical sections in an old slate quarry and near the telecommunications tower. The mountain-bike route is 23 kilometres long, rated very easy and listed as taking 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The Boucle vélo de Renac No. 10 is a difficult 38-kilometre cycling loop with a listed duration of 3 hours and 45 minutes. From Renac, it follows small country roads to the banks of the Vilaine.

Local Specialities

Pommaron is a speciality from Renac: a small brioche pastry made with chestnut flour and apples, wrapped in a chestnut leaf. A bakery in Renac offers breads and fine pastries made with chestnut flour all year round.
