Saint-Suliac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Mont Garrot is one of the three natural areas of the municipality of Saint-Suliac. In autumn and winter, thousands of waterbirds from northern Europe fly over the area or spend the winter there. Mont Garrot can be reached by car via the RD 117 in Saint-Suliac and on foot via the GR 34.

Geographical Location

Saint-Suliac lies on the right bank of the Rance. The village is situated at the end of a bay and is laid out in an amphitheatrical arrangement.

Hiking

The “La presqu'île de Saint-Suliac” hike begins in Saint-Suliac, is 10.5 km long, takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, and has a moderate difficulty level.

Culture and History

The church of Saint-Suliac was rebuilt around 1300 on the ruins of an earlier priory. Together with its portal and cemetery, it has been protected as a historic monument since 2001.

Saint-Suliac is also home to the Neolithic Menhir de Chablé, also known as Dent de Gargantua. The Maria is a replica of a chippe from Saint-Suliac made according to plans by Jean Le Bot; this type of boat was specialised in catching sand eels on the sandbanks at the mouth of the Rance.

The remains at Huitrière de Garrot, known as the “Camp viking”, have been protected as a historic monument since 1986. The origin of the so-called Viking camp remains disputed.

The Oratoire de Grainfollet was built in 1894 after sailors and their families vowed to construct such a building there if the fishermen returning from the Grand Bank made it home safely. It offers a view of the village.

Festivals and Water

Every year at the beginning of August, “Saint-Suliac autrefois” puts the village in a festive mood with games, culinary specialities and a fest-noz centred around local traditions.

At the “Fête des Doris”, visitors can explore the Rance aboard traditional long fishing boats that were formerly used by cod fishermen.
