Saint-Sauveur-Des-Landes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the northern part of Saint-Sauveur-des-Landes, the small Minette River runs through the town from east to west. Along the way, it powers the Les Planches, Bas Tayer and Chaudeboeuf mills. The town’s historic buildings include several structures and preserved architectural elements from different centuries.

History and Architectural Heritage

The Château de Chaudeboeuf dates back to the beginning of the 16th century. Following extensive renovations in the mid-18th century, the north wing pavilion and the chapel portal are the only surviving elements from that period. The chapel of the Château de Chaudeboeuf is dedicated to Saint Anne and was enlarged in 1933 by the addition of a nave.

The present-day Saint-Sauveur parish church appears to be the former priory church founded in 1040 by Marmoutier Abbey in Saint-Sauveur-des-Landes, which became a parish church in 1325. Romanesque elements have been preserved in the Église paroissiale Saint-Sauveur, including the arcades of the nave, the masonry of the south wall, half of the southern transept arm, and the apse of the choir with its four windows.

The Le Tertre estate is also documented as far back as the 12th century. From a chapel built there in 1617 and now disappeared, dedicated to the Eternal Father, a granite altar stone and a holy-water font have survived. The existence of the Manoir du Bois Nouau has been documented since the 15th century; a depiction from 1560 refers to its southern part as “Maison Neuve”.

The original part of the Manoir du Tertre dates from the 16th century. The western extension is dated to 1673, possibly 1643; a chapel mentioned in 1602 has disappeared.

Activities

On the Allée de Marmoutiers, there is a multisport field for recreational sports, an athletics track and a children’s playground. The signposted Minette hiking trail, which is 4.3 km long, also passes through Saint-Sauveur-des-Landes.
