Pleine-Fougères: Apartments and Holiday Homes

Pleine-Fougères features a rural bocage landscape, with numerous viewpoints offering panoramic views over the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.

Landscape and Nature

The approximately 190-hectare Marais du Mesnil extends across several areas, 103 hectares of which lie within the municipality of Pleine-Fougères. As an extensive wetland in the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, it has ecological value and is used by birds.

Culture and History

The Menhir de la Roche Buquet, which is 1.70 metres high, stands in the Marais du Mesnil. According to legend, the Roche-Buquet menhir is attributed to Bertrand Du Guesclin; a popular saying holds that the fall of the Roche-Buquet would herald the end of the world.

The tomb of the Plessis-Chesnel is displayed on the south side of the Church of Saint-Martin-de-Tours. The Church of Saint-Martin-de-Tours, whose construction phases date from 1826–1849 and the 20th century, is the work of architect Victor Bézier-Lafosse. The Château du Plessis-Chesnel preserves a 17th-century portal pillar.

The château-like building in Montlouët has two wings and, in the centre, a small bell turret with a domed roof; it was probably rebuilt on the site of a manor house. The Fournil on Rue du Chauffaut was formerly used for baking bread and preparing pies and roasts.

Local Knowledge and Traditions

Since 2014, the Fête du Pain has been held every year on 14 July. Bread is traditionally baked during the event, which is open to everyone.

The Musée de la ferme miniature Henri Onnée is free to visit every day during the town hall’s opening hours. At “Pleine-Fougères, une Histoire”, information panels at prominent locations provide information about important places and figures from the municipality; guides are available at the town hall.

Cycle Routes Through the Bay

Circuit du Bocage No. 11 in the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel is a 36-kilometre cycle-tourist route starting in Pleine-Fougères. In the direction of Sains, the route passes the Manoir du Chauffaut, whose corner tower is topped by a small slate bell turret.

The Route du Mont Saint-Michel is a cycle connection from Pleine-Fougères to EuroVelo Route 4, La Vélomaritime, and continues across the polders to Mont-Saint-Michel.
