Monthault: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Monthault combines culture, nature and outdoor activities. The character of the place is particularly evident in its buildings, granite formations and paths.

Culture and history

Today’s Chapelle Notre Dame de la Délivrance is the building rebuilt in 1877 in the Neo-Gothic style. The Stations of the Cross at Rocher de Monthault comprises 15 stations and was created in 1892; Rocher de Monthault is also home to four legendary stones.

Monthault has preserved its rural architecture; many houses date from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Nature

The Vallée du Bois Ainaux was formerly a granite quarry and was subsequently used for agriculture; today, it is a wetland for the fauna and flora of wet habitats. At the summit of the Buttes de Monthault, undergrowth shapes the landscape with more or less rounded granite boulders.

Paths and discoveries

The Vallée du Bois Ainaux offers a geocaching treasure hunt with the cache “Monthault tout en haut”. The Sentier Secret de Vallée is a 1 km-long, very easy and well-signposted playful and sensory discovery trail.

The Circuit Entre Vallée et Rocher is an easy, 3.1 km-long hiking route from the Vallée du Bois Ainaux to Rocher de Monthault. The Circuit paysages et couleurs is an easy, 7.7 km-long hiking route in Monthault and is available in the free MaRando® app. It bears the FFRandonnée quality label; almost seven granite artworks line the route. They were created as part of three sculpture symposia organised several years ago in the Pays de Louvigné.
