Le Verger combines distinctive landscapes with remarkable cultural sites. The Vallée du Serein and Vallée du Rohuel valleys in particular shape the surrounding area and are served by several circular trails.

Nature and Trails

The circular trail Circuit entre Serein et Rohuel is 10 km long and has a stated duration of 2 hours and 40 minutes. It begins on Rue des Fresches at the level of the Espace-Jeunes.

A longer route is offered by the circular trail Circuit des deux vallées, which is 13.7 km long and has a stated duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes.

The Vallée du Rohuel valley is cut into red shale, which emerges in places, and is of great botanical and floristic importance. Its landscape includes lowland and upland heathlands, mixed forests with Scots pines and maritime pines among deciduous trees, as well as agricultural areas divided by hedgerows. Along the stream in the Vallée du Serein valley, there are wooded strips inhabited by 44 bird species, including six that are rare at departmental level.

A wooded ridge connects the Vallée du Serein and Vallée du Rohuel valleys. Along the way, visitors pass from a species-rich wetland to a remarkable heathland designated as a ZNIEFF.

Culture and History

The townscape is dominated by the Church of Saint Peter, Saint-Pierre, with its square bell-tower porch. It is characteristic of the region’s small rural churches. Its remarkable acoustics make it an ideal concert venue. The construction of the church established a parish branch of Talensac and is considered the founding act of the municipality of Le Verger.

The area around Le Verger is home to the historic site of Abbaye Saint-Jacques, the ancient site of La fontaine de Jouvence, and the ancient site of Tombeau de Merlin. The Musée des Beaux-Arts is located in the wider regional surroundings of Le Verger.

A Culinary Discovery

Several associations from Le Verger organize a culinary walking tour in the municipality and neighboring municipalities, allowing visitors to discover the valleys of the Rohuel and the Serein.
