Nature and Trails

The Boucle des Palis in Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine is a 12-kilometre, three-hour, easy route starting at the Place de l’église. It passes through ancient sunken lanes, along the banks of the Vilaine and to the Palis stones typical of the area. Along the route, visitors can observe the distinctive waterways and wetlands of the Vilaine marshes.

Water

On the Vilaine, the Halte fluviale de la Hordrais has a pontoon where boats can moor briefly.

Buildings

The parish church of Sainte-Anne in Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine was built from 1832 to 1846 according to plans by Louis Richelot; Charles Langlois completed the work. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross, the bell tower is located on the façade, and the apse is rounded. The interior includes, among other features, a high altar with a baldachin and carved wooden choir stalls.

The Pont de Port-de-Roche was presented at the 1867 Paris World's Fair and rebuilt over the Vilaine the following year to connect Langon and Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine. The letters “N” and “E”, associated with Napoleon III and Eugénie, are set into its pillars.

History

There are around twenty Palis crosses in Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine, which were probably erected between the 10th and 18th centuries. The slate Palis cross in the village of La Réhondais has two arms of different lengths.

The historic Grand-Fougeray Tower site is located in the vicinity of Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine. The Château de la Ville Quéno and the historic Abbatiale Saint-Sauveur de Redon site are located in the wider regional area. The Église Saint-Nicolas et Saint-Luczot is also located in the vicinity of Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine.

Remembrance

The Mémorial du Tertre Pluon commemorates the shooting down of an American aircraft near Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine on 16 September 1943. It also commemorates the fact that surviving crew members were hidden by local residents and subsequently concealed in a fisherman's hut on the other side of the Vilaine.
