Montreuil-sur-Ille: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Ille-et-Rance Canal was built between 1804 and 1832. It comprises 260 structures, including 48 locks.

History and architectural heritage

The origins of Montreuil-sur-Ille date back to the 12th century. The present-day Saint-Pierre-es-Liens church was built between 1896 and 1910 by the architect Arthur Regnault. Montreuil-sur-Ille railway station was inaugurated on 27 June 1864 together with the Rennes–Saint-Malo railway line. Traces of the town’s industrial history have been preserved around the station, including production buildings, workers’ housing and manor houses.

By the canal

The “Écluse, l’Ille” lock is located in Montreuil-sur-Ille. In the storage hangar of the Chanclin lock keeper’s house is Floraison, a monumental mural by Makiko Furuichi. The mural can be reached on foot in 10 minutes from the Langager car park and in 30 minutes from Montreuil-sur-Ille railway station.

Paths along the Ille

The Sentier de l’Ille crosses the Ille via a footbridge and runs along the canal bank. At the Cours Gallais lock, the path leaves the bank.

Cycle route

Between Montreuil-sur-Ille and Feins, Vélo Promenade® No. 3 follows the Saint-Pern–Antrain cycle route (VD4). For a distance of 2 kilometres, it runs along the voie verte beside the canal.
