Fougères: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château de Fougères stands on a schist spur. Its fortifications have been fully restored; the château has 13 towers and covers an area of 2 hectares. The site can be visited independently all year round.

Culture

The rampart walk offers panoramic views of the fortifications and the city's gardens. In the lower castle courtyard, there is a reconstructed garden with plants and vegetables used in the Middle Ages. A 45-minute guided tour with an educational guide explores the history of the site and the development of its architecture. There are also audio guides providing information about the history and architecture of the castle and its noble families; the castle's history is also presented at around twelve stations.

La Coursive features a permanent exhibition that explores the history and identity of Fougères over several centuries, combining the themes of architecture, industry and literature. The Atelier et Musée de l’Horlogerie displays construction clocks, pendulum clocks, wristwatches and watchmaking tools. Visitors can also watch a watchmaker at work in the workshop.

Nature

The Jardin du Val Nançon is located on the Nançon River at the foot of the northern fortifications. The garden offers a peaceful walk between the lower and upper towns.

Local Life

In the Ville Haute, Fougères holds a large weekly market on Saturday mornings, with stalls run by local producers and traditional galette-saucisse.
