La Chapelle-Aux-Filtzméens: Holiday Apartments and Houses

La Chapelle-aux-Filtzméens combines an independent parish history dating back to 1630 with rural heritage, historic buildings and the Ille-et-Rance Canal. The village's defining features include the Saint-Joseph parish church, the Château du Logis, traces of former flax and hemp processing, and paths along the canal.

History and Church Architecture

In 1630, La Chapelle-aux-Filtzméens was elevated to the status of an independent parish. The Saint-Joseph parish church dates from the founding period of this independent parish and was built on a hilltop. It has preserved its parish district and cemetery. The bell tower was rebuilt in 1902 by the diocesan architect Arthur Regnault; the spire was topped with a bulbous dome characteristic of his work.

The Château du Logis is a 16th- and 17th-century building and is not open to visitors. It includes an avenue, moats, gardens, a dovecote and a farmyard.

Rural Heritage

The Trémabon district preserves rural heritage dating from the 17th century. Partially preserved retting pits or retting ponds bear witness to former activities associated with flax and hemp cultivation. Some houses dating from the late 19th century also preserve a maritime character: their names are framed by ship anchors, including Creis Ker.

Ille-et-Rance Canal and Paths

The Ille-et-Rance Canal runs along part of the municipality. It is a navigable waterway used by hikers, cyclists and recreational boaters. A freight transshipment point was established on the canal around 1872.

In the section near La Chapelle-aux-Filtzméens, Circuit du Canal No. 16 runs from the village along the canal; as its fifth section, this circular route passes through La Chapelle-aux-Filtzméens. The Circuit des Écrouteaux is an 11.2 km hiking route with a car park at the town hall and leads to the former windmill of La Ville Gouin.

Fishing at the Étang

Fishing is permitted at the Étang de La Chapelle-aux-Filtzméens from 1 March to 30 November.
