Coësmes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Coësmes reveals its history through tangible traces: the Manoir, le Plessis dates from the 17th century and was remodelled in the 18th century on its right-hand side.

History

The Plessix slate quarries in Coësmes were established in 1840. In 1892, a workers’ settlement with twenty homes was built there.

The slate quarry site covers 10 hectares. Slate heaps, a hoisting shaft, a water basin and the forge building have been preserved.

Culture

The Church of Notre-Dame has a neo-Gothic porch tower dating from 1859, as well as the surviving part of a church built in 1905 by Arthur Regnault in the Neo-Renaissance style.

Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross; rib vaults and older altarpieces have also been preserved.

Paths and Water

The Chemin des Saulniers begins at the car park by the Étang in Coësmes and passes former slate quarries dating from the 19th century, as well as the Chemin des Saulniers from the Ancien Régime.

The Moulin de la Pile lies along the route. A ruin, a former granary and the dam’s retaining walls have survived.

In the Rue du quartier la Costarderie, a Palis well recalls that villagers once drew their water from wells. This practice ended when the area was connected to the water supply in 1964.

The plan d'eau along the route is considered a place to relax and is associated with zander and pike.

The history of the Manoir du Plessix dates back to around 1186, and it had a chapel and a fuie, a small dovecote.

Activities

The Les Fées Grimpent club in Coësmes offers climbing, accepts children aged 6 and over, and rents out climbing equipment.

The Association Gymnastique de Coësmes offers gymnastics for adults and multisport sessions for children. Before registering, there are two free trial sessions.
