Bazouges-la-Pérouse combines architectural heritage with woodland landscapes, hiking trails and landscaped gardens.

Culture and History

The Maison du procureur du roi bears the date 1604 and has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 1934. The Maison de Sandrine is a 16th-century house considered to be a former merchant’s house. On the upper floor, it retains its original half-timbered structure; it has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 1930.

The Church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul combines two interconnected churches in a building with six naves. Its dedications refer to different phases of Christianisation. The church also contains a stained-glass window classified as a historic monument.

The Manoir du Colombier has a carriage gateway and a chamfered corner tower with a stone spiral staircase.

Nature

The Forêt domaniale de Villecartier is a former royal forest covering 1,000 hectares, consisting mainly of beech and oak trees. It contains ponds, small monuments, remarkable trees and deeply cut valleys that can be explored along numerous hiking trails.

Hiking

The Sentier des Petits Monuments is a 9.5-kilometre hiking trail in the Forêt de Villecartier area. The Croix de Montaugé is a six-kilometre hiking route and is one of the local circular trails around Bazouges-la-Pérouse.

Gardens

The Jardins du Château de la Ballue are classified as historic gardens, bear the “Jardin remarquable” label and are laid out on terraces in front of a château dating from the time of Louis XIII. The gardens offer a labyrinthine and playful tour through 13 green rooms; contemporary sculptures stand along the route.
