L'hermitage: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

L'Hermitage tells its story through tangible signs: ten old crosses are scattered throughout the municipality, and one of these crosses near the church is classified as a historic monument.

Walking and activities

The walking routes include the Le Val circular trail towards Saint-Gilles, which is 2.5 km long and takes about 40 minutes. The Moulin de la Lande circular trail is 7.5 km long and takes about two hours. The Boucle Sud leads from Boberil towards Bois de la Motte, is 5 km long and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

At the end of Rue Jean Bart is the L'Hermitage pump track, designed for mountain bikers, BMX riders and scooter riders of all experience levels. CRAPA is an outdoor fitness trail offering a range of physical exercises along the route. HAC VTT organises mountain bike tours.

History and architectural heritage

The Church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Purification illustrates the development of religious architecture from the Romanesque period through the Gothic Revival to Neoclassicism. It dates back to the 11th century, when it was dedicated to Saint Avit, and bears the heraldic emblems of the du Boberil, du Margat and de Méjusseaume families.

The Manoir du Boberil was built by the du Boberil family at the end of the 14th century. At the manor, polygonal moats and a small earthwork bear witness to an earlier defensive system. The former Commanderie manor house features half-timbering. On the back of the Calvaire du bourg is a depiction of a crowned Madonna and Child; she is standing and carries the child on her left hip.

The Saint-Avit spring or fountain is a defining element of the Saint-Avit legend and the history of L'Hermitage; today, near the multicultural centre, it is marked only by a pipe.

The Laiterie de L'Hermitage is also one of the area's notable historical traces. Its building has a slate roof and a square tower; the architecture is inspired by the English picturesque style. In the Laiterie de L'Hermitage cheese dairy established in 1968, 9,000 hand-ladled Camemberts were produced every day. The former Tillon cider house has preserved painted advertising lettering on its façades bearing the name "Cidrerie Tillon". The former Distillerie de L'Hermitage produced cider, apple and pear brandy, as well as dry pomace brandy.

Transport

L'Hermitage–Mordelles station is a regional railway station served by TER Bretagne trains on the Rennes–La Brohinière–Saint-Brieuc route.
