Gahard: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Among the oldest parts of the village of Gahard are the Saint-Exupère priory and its former properties. The parish church of Saint-Exupère has been listed in the register of historic monuments (Monuments historiques) since 1968.

Culture and Townscape

The Église Saint-Exupère preserves a Romanesque nave and was extended in the 15th century with a transept and side aisles. An engraved inscription dates the northern side aisle to 1405. The floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross with three naves; the bell tower stands at the crossing, while the west façade features a projecting porch.

Gahard's historic complex also includes the moats, which were restored in 2023 while taking into account their natural development over the past decades. Place de la Fontaine lies at the intersection of Rue Jean Morin, Rue de la Rogerie and Rue de la Guerche and is adorned with a sculpture by Marc Simon. As you walk down Rue Jean Morin, you can see the washhouse.

The “Le bourg de Gahard” hiking trail, which starts in Gahard, is 8.6 km long, takes around 2 hours and 45 minutes, and is classified as built heritage. The “Les crêtes de Gahard” hiking trail also starts in Gahard; it is 19 km long, takes around 5 hours, and is classified as natural heritage. In addition, cycle route no. 4, “En pays d’Aubigné”, is signposted in Gahard.
