Saint-Jean-Sur-Couesnon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Jean-sur-Couesnon is home to historic sites and paths through the countryside along the Couesnon. The history of the village includes the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, the Moulin de Saint-Jean and the remains of the Château de la Dobiais.

Culture and History

The Saint-Jean-Baptiste church was rebuilt after a fire in 1888. The work was carried out under the direction of the architect Crespel between 1888 and 1894.

In the 19th century, the Moulin de Saint-Jean was one of three watermills recorded in Saint-Jean-sur-Couesnon. The present building was probably rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century and converted into an industrial grain mill during this period.

La Dobiaye has a courtyard enclosed by walls and surrounded by moats. The entrance gateway preserves evidence of a gate for vehicles, a pedestrian gate and two former drawbridges. The remains of the Château de la Dobiais are listed as a Monument historique.

Nature and Trails

The municipality provides a hiking guide for St-Jean as one of the route guides for the four historic municipalities of Rives-du-Couesnon. The 5-kilometre circular route “Circuit à la recherche de la catiche” is a hiking trail along the meanders of the Couesnon.

Along this circular route, five information boards and a true-or-false quiz introduce visitors to the otter’s way of life and habitat. An artificial otter holt has also been created there, intended to serve as a quiet retreat where otters can rest.

The “Sentier des joncs” route follows the meanders of the Couesnon for approximately one kilometre and passes through wet meadows covered with rushes.
