Culture and History
The Church of Saint Yves in Plougonven was built between 1507 and 1523 and bears the signature of the Beaumanoir workshop. It features a considerable number of chimeras and gargoyles. It also has altars made of Kersanton stone, which were worked on by the sculptor Yann Larc’hantec, who came from Plougonven, and installed in the church between 1855 and 1874.
The monumental Calvary of Plougonven was erected in 1554 and is the work of Bastien and Henri Prigent. The sequence of scenes on the Calvary, rearranged chronologically in 1970, depicts the mysteries of Christ’s childhood and Passion.
In the area around Plougonven are Château du Mur, a château, Château de Goasmelquin, a château, and Manoir de Kerroué, a château. Artothèque Les Moyens du Bord, a museum, is also located in the area around Plougonven.
