Plouescat combines open coastal paths, wide sandy beaches and protected dunes with distinctive traces of its cultural heritage along the Côte des Sables. The GR 34 coastal hiking trail runs through Plouescat. Its section along the Côte des Sables follows an open path with a gentle gradient alongside wide sandy beaches and the protected dunes of Keremma.

Coast and paths

The Circuit des Goémoniers is a 9-kilometre circular hike along the coast of Plouescat. The route leads to Pointe de Pen an Theven, Baie du Kernic and the dunes of Keremma.

Beach and islands

Porsmeur Beach has a supervised beach area and water sports facilities. During the summer season, two Hippocampe beach wheelchairs and one Tiralo wheelchair are available there free of charge by reservation at the water sports centre.

Île de Siec, Île Verte and Île Kerlouan are islands in the vicinity of Plouescat. Plage Boutrouilles is a beach in the wider regional surroundings of Plouescat.

Culture and history

The Chapelle du Calvaire stands in Plouescat's municipal cemetery. It is a rectangular sacred building dedicated to Notre Dame du Mont Calvaire. The chapel was built in 1714 with donations from the wealthy wine merchant Jacques Marhic and his wife. Above its main entrance are skull boxes. These were used to hold the skulls of respected members of the clergy and other benefactors of the church.
