Pleyben: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The history of Pleyben is particularly concentrated in its parish enclosure: it was built between the 15th and 17th centuries and comprises a church with a sacristy, a porch, an ossuary, a calvary, and an enclosing wall. Protected as a historic monument, the parish enclosure is now one of the “7 monumental calvaries of Brittany”.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Germain also offers a deep insight into the architectural history of the area. It was built in 1530 and is considered an example of 16th-century flamboyant Gothic architecture. In summer, visitors can take part in free guided tours of the Saint-Germain parish enclosure.

Other sacred buildings complete this historical picture. The oldest parts of the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Lannélec date back to 1490; its main window contains remnants of older stained-glass work, including five heraldic representations. The Chapelle de la Trinité in Lanridec has a Latin-cross floor plan and a single-nave layout. It houses a representation of the Holy Trinity made from kersantite.

The Chapelle Saint-Laurent in Rozalghen includes a fountain covered by a round arch and housing a modern statue. The chapel’s windows feature flamboyant tracery. The cross of Restavidan probably dates from the 14th or 15th century. Pleyben’s heritage inventory records 24 crosses and calvaries in the municipality, including 19 crosses and five calvaries. The cross of Croaz Nu is also among the works in Pleyben classified by the regional heritage authorities as architecturally and historically significant.

Routes and Discoveries

The “Chemin faisant” discovery trail takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. The hike from Pont-Coblant is approximately 8 kilometres long. A towpath runs along the Nantes–Brest Canal and is suitable for cycling tours ranging from half a day to several days.
