Plougar reveals itself through distinctive landmarks around Saint-Pierre and the Circuit des moulins. The village combines religious architecture, historic crosses, a manor house, fountains and mills with a 13-kilometre walking trail through the Guillec Valley.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Pierre dates from 1635; it was restored in 1681 and 1840. The church cemetery contains a 17th-century ossuary. The church's cruciform layout comprises a three-bay nave, side aisles, a transept, a choir and two chapels.

The church contains statues of Saint Barbara, John the Baptist, Yves, Sebastian, Eloi, Peter, Paul, Roch and Edern, as well as an Ecce Homo. The statue of Saint Barbara is made of Kersanton stone.

Several crosses add to the village's historic landmarks: the Kerdévi Cross, also known as Kerdévy, dates from 1509. The Kercoadou Cross, also known as Croix-de-Valy-Fao, dates from the 16th century. The monumental Kroaz Hir Cross, also known as Croaz ar Mission, is located 350 m south-east of Plougar church; it has been restored and features an offering table.

In the centre of Plougar, there is a 15th-century cross and a waymarker dating from the third quarter of the 18th century. The Croas Ty Persoun wayside cross, also known as Vezen Doull, is also located in Plougar. The Trémagon fountain, also known as Feunteun-ar-Vur, is associated with a legend about a hidden treasure. Lanneunvet Manor dates from 1615.

Landscape and Trails

The Circuit des moulins in Plougar is a 13 km walking trail with a stated duration of two to four hours. It starts at the car park below the Church of Saint-Pierre in Plougar and is recommended for discovering the Guillec Valley.

The parish enclosure of Saint-Pierre and the Tronjoly bread oven are located along the circular trail. Plougar's seven mills include the Tronjoly watermill.
