Berrien: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Berrien combines striking landscapes with religious buildings, megaliths and hiking trails. Its northern edge features slate-covered uplands with heathland and heather. In the east, the wooded areas are crossed by numerous streams flowing through green granite valleys. In the southwest, a preserved bocage landscape with typical hamlets has survived, shaped by traditional forms of livestock farming and agriculture.

Landscape and Trails

From Berrien, visitors can explore the Monts-d’Arrée massif in the Armorique Regional Nature Park. A dense network of hiking trails runs through Berrien and leads to menhirs, dolmens, tumuli, calvaries, mills and the traditional architectural heritage of the hamlets. The Chemin des Monts d’Arrée is a 173-kilometre hiking trail with 12 stages. The Kalon Menez Are circular route is intended to be divided into shorter loops of 2 to 3 days, as well as variants lasting 5 days or more.

Culture and History

The Saint-Pierre parish church, the two calvaries and the cemetery enclosure in Berrien were classified as historic monuments by decree of 20 August 1915. The nave, the south porch and the choir of the parish church appear to have been built in the first half of the 16th century; Saint-Pierre also has a Renaissance-style bell tower.

The Sainte-Barbe Chapel in Berrien is a 19th-century neo-Gothic chapel. It is currently closed to visitors due to the risk of collapse. Goënidou is considered a medieval village in Berrien, while the Kerampeulven menhir is also located in Berrien.
