Bannalec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Bannalec combines religious architecture with annual traditional festivals and peaceful rivers. A notable example is the annual pardon at the Chapelle Saint-Cado: it takes place on the last Sunday in August and has been celebrated there for several centuries. The rituals include the offering of white chickens. The Chapelle Saint-Cado is also one of the few Breton chapels with a trefoil ground plan.

Culture and History

The Église Notre-Dame du Folgoët was built in the 16th century on the site of an older 11th-century church and was later altered several times. Its apse, transept and bell tower have been protected as historic monuments since 17 March 1926.

The Chapelle de Trébalay dates from the early 16th century. The pardon in honour of Sainte-Triphine is celebrated there on the second Sunday in July. The Chapelle Saint-Mathieu is located in the northwest of the municipality of Bannalec and was built by the de Quimerc’h family in the mid-15th century. Two polychrome granite statues in the chapel probably date from the 17th century and depict Saint Matthew or Saint Turgen, as well as the Evangelist Saint Mark. They were restored in 2011 and classified as historic monuments by decree of the French Ministry of Culture dated 23 April 2015.

The Chapelle de La Véronique dates from the early 17th century; it was formerly also known as Loc-Maria and occasionally as Itron Varia ar Véronik. It is one of Bannalec’s notable cultural heritage sites. The neo-Gothic Chapelle de l’Eglise-Blanche is located on the Tro Breiz pilgrimage route, which runs around Brittany.

At 33, rue de la gare, La Maison des poupées d’Annie André is open to the public by appointment.

Paths and Landscapes

The Isole and Ster-Goz rivers flow through Bannalec in peaceful, winding courses. Two circular routes provide additional access to the surrounding area: the Circuit Sainte-Anne is 9.63 km long and takes approximately two and a half hours on foot. The Circuit Guernic is 6 km long and suitable for beginner hikers.

Events and Farm Culture

The annual open day, Fête du solstice, at Ferme de Quimerc’h takes place on the Sunday closest to 21 June. Group tours of the farm are also available at Ferme de Quimerc’h in Bannalec; contacting the farm is required for further information. On the premises, Facteur Mouton makes organic sourdough bread using wild yeast.
