Saint-Cast-Le-Guildo: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Saint-Cast-le-Guildo has an 18 km-long coastline. Grande Plage is a 2 km-long sandy beach with fine sand. From Plage de la Fresnaye, there is a view of Fort La Latte; the beach lies between Pointe du Chatelet and Pointe du Grouin de la Fosse.

Coast and landscape

The section of Pointe de l’Isle belonging to Saint-Cast-le-Guildo was classified as a protected site on 17 June 1945. Grande Plage received the Handiplage label in 2017. The facilities mentioned at the time included an access mat to the beach, an adapted beach cabin and two wheelchairs made available.

History and remembrance

Cimetière des Braves was chosen as a burial site for the French victims of the Battle of Saint-Cast in 1758; before that, it had received the bodies of plague victims in the 17th century.

At Pointe du Loup, the Frégate Laplace monument commemorates the sinking of the weather frigate Laplace in La Fresnaye Bay on the night of 16 September 1950. It struck a mine while seeking shelter from a storm. The monument was erected on 14 September 1952 on the cliffs of Plage de la Mare by Antoine Pinay and René Pléven.

Trails and special places

Saint-Cast-le-Guildo has hiking trails, including a long-distance trail with sea views. An unusual discovery is the Pierres Sonnantes on Goule d’Enfer beach: they produce a metallic sound when struck with another stone. From Notre-Dame du Guildo, the stones can be reached in about five minutes via the GR34 coastal footpath; they are located beyond the wooden bridge on the shore.

Activities and events

Saint-Cast Aventure offers 190 varied obstacles across 14 courses in a green and preserved natural landscape. The Place aux Mômes festival takes place every Friday during the school holidays, with a varied programme for children.
