Coast and Landscape

Pordic has 6.5 kilometres of coastline, consisting predominantly of cliff coasts with steep promontories. Small coves and the Tournemine seafront interrupt this coastline. At the Pointe de Pordic, the land rises to a height of 80 metres; from there, visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of the coast and the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. Also connected with the point is the remnant of an 18th-century watchhouse, recalling its former strategic defensive function.

A detailed sequence of landscapes is presented by Le petit tour du Coucou: the 5-kilometre circular route takes 1 hour 30 minutes to walk and has a moderate level of difficulty. It connects a coast with steep cliffs, pebble coves, a green valley and agriculturally used areas. At the same time, the route follows in the footsteps of former fishermen. Remains and architectural monuments along the route provide an insight into Brittany’s maritime history.

Culture and History

The Viaduc de la Percée is 124.10 metres long and 34 metres high. It consists of thirteen semicircular arches, each with a span of 7 metres. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was built by the engineer Louis Harel de la Noë. The Viaduc de la Percée is a remarkable structure from the first local railway network, owing in part to its state of preservation and its dimensions.

The Notre-Dame de la Garde Chapel in Pordic dates from 1849. It was intended to be visible like a lighthouse and to give fishermen courage, confidence and gratitude. The Notre-Dame du Vaudic Chapel has approximately the floor plan of a Latin cross, with a single-nave main body and two transept arms. For its reconstruction, Pope Urban VI ordered an indulgence bull on 24 February 1387. A pardon is celebrated at the chapel on the first Sunday in September.

The Saint-Quay-Portrieux–Saint-Brieuc stage of La Vélomaritime also passes through the surroundings of Pordic: south of Pordic, it includes a section on a greenway crossing the Viaduc du Parfond du Gouët.
