Plougrescant: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Plougrescant showcases its distinctive coastal landscape at the Site du Gouffre de Castel Meur: three pebble beach ridges enclose two brackish-water lagoons. The pebble beach ridges connect the lagoons with the sea; at the same time, they are of particular botanical importance.

Coast and landscape

The Site du Gouffre de Castel Meur belongs to the area managed by the Conservatoire de l’Espace Littoral. Pors Scaff is also part of this area. Along Plougrescant’s wild, rugged coast, Pors Scaff offers hikers ever-changing landscapes of heathland and rocks that are continually transformed by the tides and the light. La Pointe du Château is considered the northernmost point of northern Brittany.

Hiking

The Circuit du Gouffre is an easy circular hiking trail starting from Plougrescant. It is 10.2 kilometres long and takes about three hours to walk. Plougrescant is also a stage of the GR®34. From the village, you can begin a multi-day hike along the Côte d’Ajoncs to Perros-Guirec.

Culture and history

The Chapelle Saint-Gonéry has an 11th-century tower and a Romanesque western section. Inside, there are remarkable Romanesque ceiling paintings depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments. Thanks to a team of volunteers, the chapel is open for free visits, which can be self-guided or guided.

The Fontaine Saint-Gonéry was built in 1682 and is listed as a historic monument. Despite being partially collapsed on the side facing away from the road, the dovecote of Lezernan bears witness to the former lordship of the place.

Nature

The Maison du Littoral offers an extensive programme of events throughout the year, with activities focused on birdwatching, exploring the intertidal zone, geology, and identifying coastal plants and butterflies. It also regularly hosts exhibitions on local wildlife and flora.
