Binic: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

At the end of Binic’s piers lies La Plage de l'Avant-Port beach. It can be reached via the Passage du Goulet, a tunnel dug into the cliff during the war, and is known for its multicoloured beach cabins. La Banche is located in the heart of the harbour; at low tide, a seawater pool and a paddling pool make swimming possible.

Maritime history and culture

The Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Voyage Church in Binic contains the Chapel of Those Lost at Sea, with a model of the Stella Maris and marble memorial plaques bearing the names and dates of sailors who disappeared at sea. It dates from the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the second quarter of the 20th century, and gradually replaced an earlier church built from 1821 to 1823. Binic’s maritime past is also reflected in its harbour history: in 1845, the town ranked first among the ports of the major cod-fishing industry, with 37 ships and 1,700 men embarking.

The Musée d’arts et de traditions populaires is just a few steps from Binic’s piers and uses extensive collections and reconstructed scenes to convey rural and maritime life and its traditions. In the Étables-sur-Mer area, the Notre-Dame-de-l'Espérance Chapel was built in 1850 above the Vau-Burel cliff, overlooking the bay. Le Rigel is a former mackerel fishing boat built in Saint-Malo in 1945, fully restored and listed as a Monument historique in 1992.

Water and trails

The Pôle Nautique Sud Goëlo offers supervised sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and catamaran sailing, as well as courses and equipment hire for children, adults and groups. Day cruises to Île de Bréhat depart from Binic harbour, with an approximately one-hour commentary during the crossing followed by independent exploration of the island.

The 6 km Les Venelles circular trail in Binic passes through narrow streets formerly used by fishermen on their way to the harbour. The 4 km Les Bernains route leads to the harbour and to the viewpoint from Parc des Bernains and is accessible to pushchairs and people with reduced mobility. Bus route 201 connects Saint-Brieuc and Paimpol and serves seven stops in Binic-Étables-sur-Mer.

Events

Every two years, Grain d’pirate transforms the harbour of Binic–Étables-sur-Mer into a maritime adventure setting with pirates, privateers and buccaneers for a free, festive weekend. The event is considered unique in Brittany.
