Broons: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Broons combines distinctive reminders of Breton history with waterside recreational facilities and local market life.
Culture and History
A prominent landmark is the Colonne Du Guesclin: the 10-metre-high granite monolith was erected in 1840. It stands about 1 kilometre from the Place Du Guesclin, on the edge of the former RN 12.
The Chapelle de la Madeleine in the Broons cemetery is also connected with the history of the Du Guesclin family. According to tradition, it is attributed to Jeanne de Malemain, the mother of Bertrand Du Guesclin. Bertrand Du Guesclin himself was born around 1320 at the Château de la Motte-Broons.
Another example of historical change can be seen in the former 15th-century church of Broons. It was demolished in 1894 and replaced by a new neo-Gothic church, which was inaugurated in 1898.
Nature and Activities
The La Planchette recreational facility is located on the Étang de la Planchette along the Route de Plumaugat. Two hiking trails can be explored from the facility.
The sports facilities include the Piscine de la Planchette, with a 25-metre-long and 10-metre-wide sports pool, as well as a solarium. La Planchette also offers children and adults swimming lessons to learn and improve their swimming skills. Aqua-fitness activities are available outdoors there all year round.
Local Life
A fair takes place in Broons on the first Wednesday of every month. It occupies the Place Du Guesclin and the adjoining streets as far as the post office and Rue de la Gare.
Les Glaces du Chêne Témoin offers a special connection with agriculture: by appointment in advance, the business provides on-site insights into the world of farming.
Getting There
Broons railway station is about 3 kilometres from the town centre. It is served by TER Bretagne trains, with connections towards Rennes and Saint-Brieuc.
