Trails and Landscapes

The “Chemin des Lavandières et Cascade de Cambourg” route from Bréhand leads through a wooded valley with a river, a jumble of rocks and a small waterfall.

The “Petite boucle des transform’acteurs” begins in the centre of Bréhand and offers the chance to discover original graphic art. “Flânerie avec les chevaux” in Bréhand is a 25-minute rural circular walk among horses and other equines.

The “Sous le Sceau de Boishardy” route is 14.7 km long, takes around four hours, is of moderate difficulty and follows a circular route. It passes through sunken lanes, valley floors and forests, following the local Margot and Truite rivers. It is associated with General Boishardy, a Chouan leader born in Bréhand. The route runs alongside the boundary walls of the Domaine de Launay, whose château was built in the 14th century. The wetlands along the route are visited by amphibians and certain migratory birds. The route map indicates car parks, toilets and a picnic area.

Culture and History

The Château de Launay-Gouray was rebuilt by Ludovic de Foucaud in 1848. At the Moulin à farine Queslon, the millrace, headrace, sluice gates, a vertical overshot waterwheel and the internal milling mechanisms are still present; the waterwheel is in poor condition.

The Maison du Randonneur in Bréhand dates from the 18th century. It was formerly an auditoire, where the Seigneur of Launay administered justice for the entire parish during the Ancien Régime.

The gisant of Bréhand was classified as a historic monument in 1980. Made of beige-pink granite, the depiction shows a fully armoured man lying stretched out in very high relief. The Église Notre-Dame de Bréhand dates from the 19th century.

The inhabitants of Bréhand call the crossing made of large flat stones the “Pont Mérovingien”; it once enabled farmers to cross with dry feet. The Cache de Boishardy is a shelter in a fissure between two large rocks, where the Chouan leader is said by tradition to have hidden.

The ruins of the Cambourg grain mill are the remains of a grain mill abandoned by its last operators in 1919. The privately owned Manoir de la Ville-Louët was built around 1500.
