Cavan: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The landscape of Cavan is crossed by the Guindy and its small tributaries and features numerous paths, some of which are bordered by stone-reinforced embankments. The Circuit de la vallée du Guindy is a hiking trail in Cavan and is well known among hikers and walkers.

Nature

The path through the Vallée du Guindy is marked with yellow signs on a green background and begins at the car park of the Esplanade Pierre-Yvon Trémel next to the church. The Church of Saint-Chéron is located along a hiking trail.

Culture

Sculptures by various artists are displayed along the path in the Vallée des Arts; the Vallée des Arts is accessible year-round. The Centre de découverte du son is located on the Guindy in the forests of Kerouspic, 2 km from the centre of Cavan. It is divided into a sound trail, a sound garden, listening huts, an exhibition room, a concert hall and an open-air theatre. It also offers an exhibition area and a listening area with deckchairs for free use.

Ti Ar Vro is the Breton cultural centre of Trégor-Goëlo in Cavan. It includes a resource centre with a library in the Breton language.

History

At Kericoul, where Cavan, Tonquédec and Caouënnec-Lanvézéac meet, stands the present-day Sainte-Mémoire Chapel, called Zant Mémor in Breton and also known as Sainte-Moire. It was rebuilt in 1821 and stands directly beside a Christianised menhir. The chapel houses a group of polychrome wooden sculptures from the 15th or 16th century depicting the Madonna and Child, a Pietà, a representation of the Trinity and a statue of Saint Mémoire.

The parish church of Saint-Chéron includes a construction phase in the last quarter of the 17th century; the years 1669, 1674 and 1684 are given for this work. Its bell tower was listed as a monument historique by decree of 17 December 1926.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame des Anges in Bardérou is a Gothic chapel from the second half of the 16th century. It contains old statues of the Virgin Mary, Saint Loup and Saint Cado. The Kerdaniel wayside cross probably dates from the second half of the 19th century. It is made of granite and bears a bas-relief of Christ on the cross on its front, as well as a depiction of the Virgin Mary on its back.

Tri-Umphant is a metal sculpture created in 2005 by the Polish artist Milosz Piotrowski, standing opposite the parish church of Cavan. The Toull Ar Feunteun washhouse in the centre of Cavan is associated chronologically both with the 18th century and with the last quarter of the 20th century.

Cavan can be reached via the RD 767 and the RN 12 Paris–Brest expressway; the route via Lannion, Plouisy and the D67 is indicated as the exit. Cavan’s weekly market takes place every Tuesday evening on the Esplanade Pierre-Yvon Trémel and offers garden produce as well as food trucks.
