Le FÅ“il is a place where architecture, religious heritage and historical local references are expressed in various forms.

Culture

The remains of the former Château de Crénan, including the outbuildings, were classified as a historic monument by decree of 1 December 1969. The estate was an example of Breton secular architecture; its medieval section is dated to the period between 1473 and 1500. The Château de Robien is a protected 18th-century château in Le Fœil; the protected ensemble includes the stables, a former chapel and the park.

The Manoir du Guermain is a 16th-century manor house with late Gothic architectural elements and a stair tower attached to the rear façade. Its façades and roofs were listed as historic monuments by decree of 11 June 1964. At the Moulin Pépin, the diversion channel and tailrace are still preserved; the facility has existed since before 1789. Christophe-Paul de Robien was born at the Château de Robien, became a conseiller in 1720 and président à mortier from 1724.

The Église Notre-Dame is a late 19th-century church with a cruciform layout, a five-aisled nave divided into five bays, a transept and choir, as well as an open bell tower inspired by the Beaumanoir style. It houses a polychrome wooden statue from the 16th century depicting Notre-Dame des Anges. Le Fœil is also a stage on a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

History

Noë Sèche was formerly surrounded on three sides by water and marshland, which were later drained. The Château de la Noë Sèche has a 15th-century gatehouse in the Flamboyant Gothic style. Its pedestrian and carriage gates lead into a courtyard and are listed as historic monuments. The estate is considered to be a former commandery of the Knights of Malta.

The hill of Les Justices is associated with the former exercise of high justice by the lord of Crénan. The Lavoir du Pont-Tano illustrates the social role of Breton washhouses, which were important places of exchange until the early 1960s.

The Artothèque de Saint-Brieuc, a closed museum, is located near Le Fœil. The Hôtel de Rohan is a historic site in the vicinity of Le Fœil. In the wider region surrounding Le Fœil are the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Coëtmaloën as a ruin, the Chapelle Saint-Gilles as a ruin, Plage des Rosaires as a beach and Bel Air as a mountain.
