Château de Fontanay preserves a chapel with Louis XVI-style wood panelling and a large Directoire-style salon in its interiors.
Château de Fontanay is fully protected as a historic monument. The protection also covers the interior furnishings and the terraced park; the listing was made by decree on 25 October 2007.
The building displays the austere character of a manor house constructed in the 17th or early 18th century. Its three wings are arranged in a U shape and feature regularly spaced window openings with surrounds made of Volvic stone.
