Parent: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The 653-metre-high Puy d'Ecouyat offers panoramic views of the Sancy Massif, Montpeyroux and the Chaîne des Puys. At the same time, it is the only volcanic dyke in the sector in question.

Nature

From Parent, the Puy d'Ecouyat can be reached on foot via Rue des frères Mirales or Rue du Buisson. The La citadelle de Buron route is a moderately difficult 11.5 km hiking trail. It leads to the summit of Puy Rousset, from where you can overlook the ruins of a 13th-century feudal castle, and offers a 180° panorama of the Cézallier, the Sancy and the Chaîne des Puys.

History

Archaeological discoveries show that the municipality of Parent has been inhabited since the Iron Age. In 1284, Parent was a fief dominated by a castle and dependent on the Châtellenie de Buron. During the Wars of Religion, Parent's small fort was besieged in March 1590 by the Duke of Nemours and Sieur Dandelot, accompanied by leaders of the League.

Parent can be reached via the A75 motorway and Gare Parent-Coudes-Champeix railway station.

The 67 km GR® de Pays: Tour de la Reine Margot – Boucle du Val d’Allier n°2 route, classified as moderately difficult, starts at Parent railway station. Parent also has an orienteering course.
