Naves: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The hike at the Domaine de Vort passes through the village of Naves. The 8.0 km route is a yellow-marked circular hike, classified as moderately difficult, with 240 metres of elevation gain. It runs along the Allier through wooded sections and offers unobstructed views of the Issoire basin. The hike also provides views of the Livradois, the small Limagne, Issoire, the Cézallier and the Sancy Massif.

The hike at the Domaine de Vort is offered and managed by the Puy-de-Dôme département as part of the PDIPR. Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on a lead because of the herds grazing there.

Nature and trails

Orbeil is located on the right bank of the Allier. The village is surrounded by fields, pastures and vineyards. Orbeil is 3 km from Issoire; Clermont-Ferrand can be reached from Orbeil in around 30 minutes by car via the A75 motorway.

The starting point of the hike at the Domaine de Vort can be reached from the A75 via the Orbeil exit, the D9 and the D14 to the village of Pont d’Orbeil. A cycle route also leads from Orbeil towards Issoire; via Parentignat and Varennes-sur-Usson, the D996 leads back to the Via Allier.

Culture and history

Hemp grown in Orbeil was processed into fabric or rope by retting, breaking, pounding, spinning and weaving. In Barsou in Orbeil, the spring and the washhouse can be seen at the lower end of the path. Hemp retting pits that were used at the beginning of the last century are also located there.

YBOIS is an ancient volcano on which a mighty fortress once stood; it was destroyed under Louis XIII. Queen Margot crossed the Allier in November 1586 and sought refuge in the fortress of YBOIS.

Gardens and equestrian activities

The Jardin des Senteurs at the Domaine de Vort in Orbeil is both a botanical garden and a rural garden. It offers self-guided visits, guided visits and group visits by arrangement.

Les écuries d’Orbeil offers equestrian activities. The programme ranges from beginners aged three and over to experienced riders.
