Culture and History
The former Church of Saint-Jean was built before the year 910 on the edge of the monastery enclosure. Traces of the fortifications have been preserved on its eastern façade.

La vallée du Civadoux is a difficult 14.5-kilometre circular hike with a duration of 4 hours and 30 minutes and green trail markings. The route leads through the narrow gorges of the Chaméane valley and offers views of the Chaîne des Puys, the Sancy, the Cézallier, the Allier valley, and the Forez.

The Trail de l’Améthyste has been held in Sauxillanges every year since it was founded in 2009. It offers courses of 12, 23, and 37 kilometres, youth races, and a 13-kilometre hiking route for accompanying persons.
