The 9.5-kilometre circular trail “Le colporteur des Jasseries” crosses the Hautes-Chaumes from one jasserie to another.
The Col des Supeyres is located at an altitude of 1,366 metres. In summer, it provides access to the Hautes-Chaumes on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback; in winter, it can be accessed with snowshoes and for cross-country skiing. Valcivières also offers opportunities for cross-country skiing in winter.
Culture and Traditions
The “Pastoralisme et Hautes-Chaumes” activity includes a visit to an authentic jasserie restored by the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels d’Auvergne. It also follows paved paths that bear witness to the region’s former agricultural way of life.
The term “jasserie” originally referred to summer pastures where herds were driven during the warm season, and later to the barn located there.
