Viscomtat: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Viscomtat can be discovered through specific routes and experiences: La Virée des Rocs (Roc du Guet) is a circular route starting and ending in Viscomtat. This challenging circular hike leads to a viewpoint at Roc du Guet, overlooking the Bois Noirs and the Chaîne des Puys.

Hiking and trails

The GR® 89 – Chemin de Montaigne connects Lyon and Bordeaux and covers 165 kilometres in the Puy-de-Dôme département. It follows the route taken by Michel de Montaigne in 1581 and features special signage incorporating texts and quotations from Michel de Montaigne about his journey and the areas he crossed.

Culture

At the Cité de l'Abeille, an apiary in the Thiers uplands, visitors can taste honey and honey specialities. A guided tour includes observation hives, a slide show, a museum of old beehives, the honey extraction room or honey-processing area, and the opening of a live beehive. By prior arrangement, the apiary also offers a workshop about beeswax, including making candles and working with wax.

Rural activities

During the “Promenade avec les ânes Marius et Jasmal” activity, visitors prepare the donkey before setting off by brushing it, cleaning its hooves and putting on its pack harness. For the activity, visitors receive a map showing the route and complete the half-day or full-day tour independently and at their own pace. The trails pass through valleys, forests and meadows between the Bois Noirs and the Forez; the Chaîne des Puys can be seen in the distance along the way.

Regional products

At the Les Sens en Herbe farm, farmers and distillers Gaétan and Naïs grow, gather and distil medicinal plants and process them into essential oils and organic hydrosols. Visitors can taste some of the hydrosols and smell essential oils there.
